2ND INTERNATIONAL CHROMATIN SYMPOSIUM
from 2. September 2013 to 4. September 2013 in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands
International Symposium "Chromatin Changes in Differentiation and Malignancies"

This symposium aims at identifying our current knowledge of the molecular function of the eukaryotic genome packaged in chromatin. Epigenetic modifications mark active and inactive chromatin. These marks, when properly established, control differentiation and development. Mechanisms to establish as well as to maintain these epigenetic landscapes during replication, mitosis and meiosis and during propagation or differentiation of embryonic stem cells are being unraveled and will be presented by about 30 invited international speakers.

Chromatin Changes in Differentiation and Malignancies
from 12. September 2011 to 14. September 2011 in Gießen
International Symposium 2011 "Chromatin Changes in Differentiation and Malignancies"

This symposium is aiming at summarizing our current knowledge of the molecular function of the eukaryotic genome packaged in chromatin. Many enzymes control chromatin activity by modifying DNA, histones or other chromatin-associated proteins. Furthermore, local and global interactions of genomic regions mediate or are the consequence of gene regulation. The failure to differentiate into or maintain a particular chromatin landscape is the hallmark of many diseases. The invited speakers will address the role and mechanisms of chromatin changes in normal cellular differentiation and in the steps leading to malignancy. We think that intensive discussions in plenary and poster sessions will allow identifying new ideas to analyze and understand the molecular machinery of epigenetics.

Registration is free, but mandatory.
Registration deadline for participants with or without poster presentation will be by July 31st (2011).

Registration deadline: February 19, 2010.

The Topic
------------
The large diversity of cell types and associated functions in multicellular organisms arises through complex molecular, biochemical and cellular processes in cellular differentiation. Whereas genetic information is stored in a linear fashion in DNA sequence, its utilisation occurs within a “three dimensional” context of chromatin, chromosomes and the nucleus, all of which contribute to the multiple layers of gene regulation.

Thus, regulation of gene activity involves transcription factors and DNA regulatory elements, chromatin structure and modification, genome organisation and nuclear compartmentalisation of gene activity and interactions.
It is a challenge to determine the identity, the quantity and the dynamic changes of the many proteins that regulate the epigenetic utilisation of the DNA sequence within its chromatin environment.

This workshop brings together leading experts in the field of chromatin proteomics.
